Hailing from the Windy City, this Chicago emcee feels he is a star in his own right. He goes by the name of 5ive Star in which he is confident he produces top notch rated music. In this industry confidence is the key and if you don’t have that chances your you won’t go far. With the new record “Club to the Bedroom” gaining a strong foundation in the online community and much more, 5ive Star is coming for the takeover.
With the changes of the music business shifting the ways labels operate, 5ive Star still knows hit records still need to me made and he has no problem dishing them out. The new project from him “Popology” is on its way, 5ive Star wants to go for the gold.
Why do you call yourself 5ive Star?
Well, the name came from the things I'm known for; an emcee, a songwriter, a singer, an author and a poet. Of course, the name mean I better be pretty damn good too. (Laughs)
When I think of 5ive Star, first thing that comes to mind is a rating scale when it comes to some ones music in a magazine of some sort. Do you feel like you have 5ive star music?
For sure fam. I wouldn't even go there if I didn't feel like I would do the name justice. As an artist you always strive to be the best. As an emcee, it's a competitive lifestyle. If you don't think you are the best you might as well walk away, or call yourself 3 stars and be a hype man.
Getting into your music, your hit record “Club to Bedroom” has been showcased on a lot of popular blogs online and much more. Being the artist who crafted this record, why you think the response was so good?
I wrote the whole record; hook, verses, and bridge. When I heard this beat, I knew it would be a hit record. It just had that feel to it. It's definitely a record that is fun and a party record. I think that's what connects with listeners. The single is just about having fun no matter where you are. Obviously the production was off the hook, so I gotta give it up to my team.
Personally was the club to bedroom experience, something that went down recently (laughs)?
Haha, yeah every night. Naw (laughs), it was just something that came to mind about having a party no matter where you are. Certainly, not many would turn down a club to the bedroom experience, so I'm with it, don't get me wrong.
The song definitely has the sound for the pop-radio type feel, especially when you hear the production laced into it. For the fact alone that pop records dominate ready is the reason why you going so hard with “Club to the Bedroom” promo wise?
Certainly, pop records are going crazy right now, but in reality it just felt like the right record. My whole style is bringing different elements together, and I think this beat showcases my talents of making melodies and taking a pop beat and spitting over it. The reaction from the fans is really what got us pushing this single so hard out the gate.
So getting into your life, growing up what is your story. When people are looking to hear a record from 5ive Star for the first time what you want their perception to be of you?
I've been on the grind for a few years now and I think the one thing everyone who hears the music says is that I have my own style, voice, and delivery. My goal in being an artist and being creative is to bring something new to the game. I never modeled myself after a particular artist or style. People talk all the time about creating a new lane, well I am the new lane. My job as an artist is not to copy but impose my style on the beat. Making music is definitely my life's passion; I think that comes through in the music I make.
We all have influences in our lives all every field in which we all do to make a loving. Musically who has influenced 5ive Star and why?
Wow, I have such an eclectic taste, I don't know where to start. Musically, Prince is the ultimate to me as an artist and entertainer. Man, he did it all from write to play instruments, dude is a true genius. From an emcee perspective I don't have many to add from everyone else's list; but I would have to say Outkast is a group I always look for. They are always reaching for something fresh and stay true to what they want to do musically.
Of course we all love hip-hop but at the same time when you want to be a star, new artist have to understand it’s a business. How you feel about the current climate of the music industry right now?
Business is business right. Yeah, if you don't understand that what an artist has to do is sell records and sell out shows, you will soon. At the same time, those artists who try to understand the business too well, often end up losing the art-form that got them there. I recognize the business is real, but I don't let it dictate my music. You need hits, you need exposure, you need a budget, but if you don't put your creativity first, you could be chasing those things forever. You can never have too many smash singles though, never.
I see you’re a Chicago native. Chi-town is definitely a die-hard sports town and I always wanted to know something. When it comes to baseball how someone chooses to root for between the Chicago Cubs and White Sox?
Oh, you trying to get me in trouble (laughs). I think a lot of it is based on location, like it's hard not to live close to Wrigley and not root for the Cubs. I would have to say there is a lot of north-side south-side rivalry when it comes to sport fans in the city.
Were you happy that the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup? It’s been years since it happened.
Man, the city went crazy so yeah we all got sucked up into the Stanley Cup. The whole city transformed. Everybody became a hockey fan even if it was overnight. It was definitely special for the city. You know when 2 million people show up downtown for the parade it was a great moment to say the least.
Outside of music, is there something you think people would find interesting about you that they don’t know that can be surprising if so what is it?
There is a couple of things real crazy outside of being an artist, but in due time my friend, in due time. (laughs) You wouldn't believe it if I said it anyway.
Overall what’s the overall goal for 5ive Star in 2010 and the future to come?
The goal is to be a huge figure in the music industry. I'd be lying if I didn't have platinum records and Grammy's on my mind. With my album, "Popology" finished, I definitely want to find a home for it. I want to go down as one of the best, that's just me being honest.
And why the people should support you?
I think overall people are tired of the same routine. In music, we have so few original artists putting out music that will hit a large audience with real concepts people can identify with. I'm here to use music to connect with the fans. I think when you speak to what people feel, give a sound to their lives, the support comes na

She reportedly agreed to never reveal any details about the rapper in return for cash.
An insider says, “It’s pretty common to have ’silence’ agreements amongst entertainers. I heard that Amber’s getting seven figures to keep her lips closed.”

Who is Chucki Love?
Hard to say… Umm, I guess Google me, or ask about me in the streets, people know or have heard of me.
I'm a stand-up comedian/actor/musician though, and I'm one of the greatest in the game at it all to say the least.
What made you want to get into comedy?
My family and friends first and foremost. My whole life people always came up to me and said, "Boy, you need to be a comedian, or a radio DJ, or something, boy you crazy!"
I had two high-schools teachers who gave me first opportunity to trip out on stage when I was 17 and that was when I knew I this was what I wanted to do. As I got older, I just realized, (after getting fired from all my jobs and going through the craziness I was going through in my life) that maybe I should try comedy. It's worked out great, so far so…
What's the worst prediction you've ever made?
That an ex-best friend would ever betray his ex-best friend like that… Long story...
What's your biggest pet peeve?
Snatching out of my hand and negative people are tied for first. I grew up and around (crabs = haters = puller-backers) and I learned that the only thing you can do is beat they ass up or separate yourself from 'em because over time it'll wear off on you and you'll end up being a negative person too.
How long must you wait before joking about a "sensitive subject"?
Any comedian will tell you there's no time to wait, but it really depends on the comedian and the circumstances. Being aware of the people around you and try to make good decisions I guess.
What's one of your guiltiest pleasures?
Masterbation! Duh!!
Which celebrity is your top pick for certain impending doom?
Damn… That's a real ass question? Lol. Easy. Lil' Weezy. He needs to slow down on those drugs before his brain comes to an abrupt halt. I'm a big fan of him, I like him as a human being, but thats how we lost Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Kobain, and shit, The Great MJ… Drug abuse.
How tough is it to follow a comedian who has just "killed it" on stage?
Not tough at all. Usually we're friends so its like a whole bunch of your funniest friends sharing their thoughts on stage. Everybody's different, and if you just stay focused on yourself, you'll kill your set too.
What topic do you find hard to make people laugh but you do it anyways?
People with disabilities. But people don't know but my step-son has Autism, I have a close Uncle and a friend who are both legally Schizophrenic (and we still speak), and everybody in Decatur knew one of my best friends growing was a guy born with short legs, and trust me, they talk shit too. Midgets, sp.-eds, crackheads and real ugly people are always funny. Everybody feels guilty though like if you laugh your going to hell, but EVERYBODY TALKS SHIT ABOUT EVERYBODY. They're jokes, lighten up.
If you had your very own television channel, what kind of programming could we expect?
I'm actually making owning a television channel one of my major goals in life so I don't want to tell my secrets, but you can know that it would be targeted for urban youth and it's focus would be melding mainstream and underground cultures through a diverse line-up of programming from news to The Arts, (and way better than BET)
What would your fans be surprised to learn about you?
I'm Toni Braxton's biggest fan! I have all her albums, even "Snowflakes", her Christmas album and when I meet her Im going to throw myself at her like chicks throwing titties at Nicki Minaj trying to get Nicki's autograph.
Where can we catch more of you in 2010?
Everywhere! Online (@ChuckiLove on Twitter, YouTube.com/TheOnlyChuckiLove), in the Hood, at the mall, in the studio, at night and strip clubs, and most definitely comedy clubs nationwide. I do have a few opportunities in TV right now I'm pursuing and I'm reading a few scripts so… There you go!
Let's end with word association. We say wombat and you say?
"If y'all go to Fulton Industrial by that McDonald's, that's where you'll find where all the womb at…"

What is the significance of your name, DJ Brooklyn ? How did you get that name?
My real name is Brooke Lynn....lol ,Everybody always asumes I'm from New York, but no I'm a real southern girl!!
What first drew your attention to hip-hop?
I've always loved hip-hop. My first piece of music that I ever owned was JJ Fad "Supersonic" I love to dance so any music that made me move ,I was all about it.
Who and what are your influences?
DJ Jelly was my biggest DJ influence. What he did on mixtapes was true art!! He went above and beyond just blending two songs together. And on top of being a great DJ he is a great person. The first time I got to really sit down and talk to him I was so impressed. I expected him to act "Hollywood" or something, but he couldn't be more down to earth.
What were some of the challenges you faced coming up in a male-dominated field?
At first, it was people taking me seriously. There really wasn't too many female DJs when I started, so people would look at me crazy like yeah right. But after I graduated from Full Sail and put in so much work all that seemed to go away. Now I would have to say the challenge is always being hit on. Don't get me wrong I'm used to it now, but it gets old!
What has been your most defining moment as a DJ?
Headlining my own tour! I have been on many tours with artist, but I must admit that the first time I saw the huge banner with just my name on it made me feel really good.
What are some of the events that have been under your turntable-control?
Maxium Magazine Tour, NFL All Star Game Party(Miami), NBA All Star Game Party(Phoenix), A Town Day, Dance Your Ass Off promo tour, NBA Summer Camp Party (Las Vegas), Budweiser Select Release Party, and many more....
Apart from Dj’ing what else do you do?
I'm the Event Coordnator for A Town Day (www.atownday.com) I do artist development, choerography, and coach gymnastics.
So how does Artist be apart of A-town Day ?

What will you to say to the young girls who look up to you and will like to follow your steps?
Always keep it business!!! Watch how you put your image out there, you can never take it back. People will not respect you if you cross that line. People will always try you but stand strong and hold true to what you believe in!!
Finally your message to your fans.
I want to thank everybody for all their support. I definatly can't do what I do all by myself. Surround yourself with great people. Always keep positive energy!! Don't let anybody tell you that you can not do something. With enough hard work and faith you can make anything happen.

Face called into the HoodHype Show last night to express his displeasure with VH1 for the “Dirty South” label that has been applied to their upcoming Hip-Hop Honors tribute to Southern MCs. Now, Scarface is probably my favorite Southern MC ever, but I’m not sure I understand his beef. He says he doesn’t appreciate being called “dirty” but at the same time he says he never had a problem with the Dungeon Family’s popularization of the term. I guess it’s one of those we-can-refer-to-ourselves-as-such-but-don’t-you-dare type of things. LOL @ this all of a sudden being an issue. But then again it’s fucking Scarface, dude has earned the right to feel however the fuck he wants.

“I am canceling my concert in Phoenix on May 31... How is the country we enjoy and love bcuz of its human rights, freedom, opportunity and that has been built by immigrants, now start 2 deny them??.. It is contradicting 2 everything the USA stands 4,” he announced on his Twitter page.
He will begin this "Worldwide" tour on May 25 and it will go through the end of June.
He isn't alone in doing this. Cypress Hill and others have also canceled shows due to this law. Pitbull is prepping the release of his first Spanish-only album, Armando, a tip of the hat to his real name Armando Perez. Fans can expect that album in the summer and another album, PlanetPit, in the Fall
