DJ Aaries Interview

Summers in New York are distinctly unique. The block parties, jumping in the fire hydrant, the gathering of people and of course the music. The Harlem, New York born, South Carolina raised DJ AAries can attest to that.

When asked what inspired him to get into Hip Hop; he puts it like this, “I was always around music; my parents always listened to music. Being raised in the country, my parents use to send me up there, and my uncle would put me up on what was hot. Just walking outside, you would hear different sounds, different music, and different rappers, when rap started coming around, I liked it. Everything about rap music, I felt I could relate to.” Music alone, however, was not his only inspiration, “Life”. As DJ Aaries puts it, everything in life has inspired him to motivate and progress to the next level.djaaries-interview

As for DJ Aaries musical inspirations and favorites, he is all over the place; he goes from Alanis Morrisette, to Wu Tang Clan, Jahiem, and Young Jeezy. His DJ picks would be Biz Markie and friend DJ Shakim. He appreciates all genres of music and it all has its place.

Now, right off the back, AAries did not go in pursuing dee jaying, just keeping it plain – he kinda fell into unintentionally, DJ Aaries states facts: “What ended up happening was, when I got to college, my cousin started dee jaying, he would ask me “can you dj for an hour for me or help me set up”, than he would say “well dj for me for twenty minutes”
, twenty minutes turned to thirty minutes, thirty minutes turned to an hour. Then my cousin would have two venues, and I would dj for him until he would get here.” Eventually, DJ Aaries purchased his own equipment and it was on from than.

Now residing in the A-town, DJ AAries has established a name and style for himself. He can be spotted dee jaying at the hot spots in Atlanta’s club scene, The Atrium, Sugar Hill, showcasing with Hood Hard DJ’s, and where ever else he needed to rock the party.  Currently, DJ Aaries is pushing singles for Mac Breezy, Archie EverSole, OJ tha Juice Man, and Looney Tunes.

Some would say that the art of dee jaying is a thing of the past, no more are turn tables the essential tool of dee jaying, anyone with the latest computer program can get put on. Being an enthusiast, DJ Aaries can appreciate all aspects of dee jaying, from the traditional turn tables, to the mix tape DJ to the DJ who scratches with a computer program. DJ Aaries goes on say; “… You got turn tablist, mix tape dee jays, than you have club dee jays…I think each aspect of dee jaying has its level of difficulty and importance. Nothing has been taken away from the art form – its all cool.”

As for making it in the music industry, DJ Aaries would advise “Don’t burn bridges, don’t stop or entertain negativity and don’t step on toes, they may be strapped to the foot of someone who you will need later on.” This is true indeed.
