With the game being so saturated with here today, gone tomorrow R & B groups and the notion that girls' groups that don't last, R & B trio "Bliss" squashes all that! Meet the ladies of Bliss – they are new, young, fresh and give a provocative edge to music. They choreograph, write and sang (you know black folk, we say sang).
They are a team, but first and foremost they are family, climbing the ladder of success. On Tha Real had the opportunity to sit down and chit chat with "Bliss", meet Cali, TK, and Lex – the ladies of Bliss.
Where are you ladies from?Orginally, Cali, I am from California, and TK, I am from Louisiana and Lex is from VA, but we have been in Atlanta for four years.
How long have you been singing? All of our lives, but as a group for four years.
Do you ladies write your own material?
Yes
Do you produce?
No, we are working with producers now.
Can you name drop [The various producers]?
Yes, DJ Black with Swagg Team, that is Yung Joc's DJ and we are actually about to get some tracks from Yung Joc. Einstein, Mahdi out of Ohio, Gamble, and G-Phonix.
When is your project coming out? Any specific dates?
We don't have specific date, but we are six songs away from finishing the album. Top of the year is our aim.
Okay, how do you ladies like working in the industry? What are some of the good parts and the bad?
The good part is waking up every day doing what you love to do, the grind, being in the studio, working out – that is the bad part too, all that working out and losing all that sleep.
Working in the industry, do you encounter a lot of superficial people?
There are some, but the people we work with genuinely care about us and what happens with the project.
Do you have to deal with a lot of sexism in the industry?
At first, they are like this is a girls' group and we will not last, but when they see us together and we have been through a lot together in these four years – we have been through everything, so we know what it is and so does everyone else.
What advice would you give other groups on the grind?
Never stop! Once you put your mind to something, go hard, and surround yourself with people who are down for your cause. Strong management is important, because some people are quick to take your money. We are fortunate to have my father [Lex's] as our manager, so we good on that aspect. It's a grind, if you are not going to do this and you don't want this to be your life, than it is not for you. This is Hollywood, it ain't for everyone!
What keeps you guys grounded?
Family, we are definitely family. We are not related, but blood couldn't make us any closer. We are beautiful, intelligent, soul sistas. Just waking up, knowing I am about to see my sister today, it's a good thing, hang out and do what you love to do – it's a beautiful thing.
Who have you ladies been compared to?
Destiny Child, En Vogue, Xscape, sound wise SWV, dance wise – Chris Brown, we are real high energy, body type Tina Turner!!
