DJ Krunch One
Clubs and Drugs (Dedicated to DJ Uncle Al)
Throughout rap history we've always had rapping DJ's: DJ Quik, Dr. Dre (and his ghost writer), Pete Rock and Mannie Fresh just to name a few. Now we have a recent wave rapping/producing DJ's releasing mixtapes/albums. This movement was re-ignited by DJ Khaled, and it is being further fueled by Miami's own DJ Krunch One with his street release “Clubs and Drugs”.
Rappers I'm gonna tell ya right now...y'all in danger and its all you all's fault. Today's emcees are so...what's the word I'm looking for...awful that DJ's are stepping into the arena and dropping hotter tracks than today's so-called rappers. DJ Krunch One is a veteran DJ from Miami/Dade (self-described 70's baby) that sat back, watched y'all suck for too long, and did something about it.
This mixtape is dope...bangin'...hot...whatever you wanna call it. Even though there are songs on the mixtape that reflect the title of “Clubs and Drugs”, it actually offers more. I especially appreciated the song “Old School Hip Hop”; not because the production was tight (in fact it's quite the opposite), but because he made a song about the old school with a a beat that could've been made 25 years ago on a Roland TR 808 (look it up, young'ns).
The features and production credits are too numerous to list, yet the quality and integrity of the cd remained in tact throughout. For the DJ's that's reading this, “Clubs and Drugs” has a ton of club hits (both for urban, dance and strip clubs). If you work at a club with some old heads (like I do a couple times a week), you're definitely wanna put “Let's Vibe” in the crate. This mixtape is solid from beginning to end...no momentum breaks or dead periods. This is a must for anyone's cd collection.
Best Song on the CD: “All About The Money”, “Funny Funny”, “Let's Vibe”
Song I Enjoyed The Most: “Liver Than Me (Rmx)”, Shake That Ass
Rating: 4...he did his thang...hopefully there's more where that came from.
Rating Scale:
1 Recycle Bin
2 Could've Been
3 Aight
4 Tiiiiiiite
5 Mission Accomplished...your next project should be an album
