Rubber Band Business 2
I have a confession to make: I really don't like a lot of Crunk/Gangsta music. It offends my sensibilities in so many ways it makes my head hurt. Having said that, one of my guilty pleasures was listening to anything from Hypnotized Minds; especially Project Pat, Gangsta Boo, and 3-6 Mafia. Something about the production from DJ Paul and Juicy J that would just...just...well none of your business that's what. So I was really looking forward to listening to DJ Paul's latest offering from the streets of Memphis.
A little background: usually when I do a review I listen to the cd once, taking notes while I listen, then I type my review. That's not what happened while I listened to this mixtape. I listened to it the first time, and about halfway through I'm like, “This is some straight up smokin' music.” I got to the end, wrote my notes, then called my Canadian connect and copped me some “maple leaves”. After some “aroma therapy”, I listened to the mixtape again, took more notes and compared my two sets of notes. My review is a summation of those two very different sets of notes. Note: if my kids are reading this, daddy did not really do this...this is just to add humor to my review...nothing to see here!!!
This is a very solid effort by Juicy J and Lex Luger (who did almost all of the production on this project). Now be forewarned: if you're not a smoker, frequenter of strip clubs, a thug or a dealer, then you might wanna stay away from this mix tape because there is nothing here for you. If you don't believe me, here's the title to one of the best songs on the cd: “Pills, Weed and P*$$y”. Case closed. Basically, this is a cd for the weekend, when you're getting your mind right before you hit the club.
Features on this cd include Travis Porter, Project Pat and Don Trip (a star on the rise...watch this dude). The production is 3-6 ish (which is a good thing) and the lyrics are 3-6 ish (which is...well...moving right along). Juicy J has established his brand over the years, so you already know what you're getting on this cd: a lot of smoking, shooting, fcking, and ass shakin'. If this is your type of party, then by all means go find this mixtape and download it.
Best Song on the CD: “Inhale”, “Talkin' Bout (Bombay Gin Dance)”
Song I Enjoyed The Most: “Pills, Weed and P*$$y”
