Prez
The Independent Party
There are a few cities in the United States that, in my opinion, have been under-represented in the hip hop community. Seattle, Charlotte, Denver, Orlando, Columbus (OH, not so much GA), Kansas City, and Minneapolis immediately come to mind. Another is Sin City itself: Las Vegas. In my pursuit to see if anything was going on out there, other than casinos and cat houses (not that I've been to either *polishes halo*), I stumbled across a mixtape titled “The Independent Party”. The artist that made it was named...wait for it...Prez!
I know what y'all are thinking: who the fck is this dude?!? Truth be told, I thought the same thing. Nevertheless I decided he was worth at least a listen, maybe a review. I gotta give credit where credit is due...Prez took chances with his track selection and song topics. I'm not saying that all of them worked, but he definitely put a lot of thought into his project. A majority of the production credits went to Yung Tac (watch out for this dude), Token and Hitman Beatz, with features from Roscoe Dash (“One Of A Kind”), Glasses Malone (“I Run It”) and M.I.M.S. (“Losin' It”). DJ's will find the song “Nodding My Head” very useful...it's a definite club banger.
The mixtape started strong, but kinda lost momentum towards the end (too many songs, perhaps?). However, I have absolute faith that Prez will continue to improve and put out good music. Definitely give him a listen; its solid mixtape and worth your time!
